Thought I could sneak in a few rounds of Chicken Road during my lunch break. Thought I had it under control. Thought wrong.



The game is simple enough. Set your bet, watch the chicken run, cash out before cars hit. Rounds last like 2 to 25 seconds. Perfect for a quick break, right?



Wrong.



Here's what actually happened:



Round 1: Won a little. Cool. Good start.

Round 2: Lost a little. Fine, whatever.

Round 3: Multiplier started climbing. 2x. 3x. 5x. My coworker asked me a question and I literally shushed them. I never shush people. The chicken was at 7x and I was laser focused. I cashed out at 8x and probably looked insane just staring at my phone with wide eyes.



Round 4: Got greedy. Crashed at 1.2x. Made a noise that was somewhere between a sigh and a growl.



My boss walked by during Round 7. I had two bets running in dual mode, one at 1.8x and one chasing 10x. The aggressive one was at 6x and climbing. My boss asked about a project deadline. I responded with "one sec just let me just cash this chicken" and I STILL don't know how I still have a job.



I did cash that one at 8.5x by the way. Small victories.



But here's the real problem. Lunch break ended. I had to go back to work. But in the back of my mind, that chicken was still running. I kept thinking about the live stats showing recent big wins. About the 10,000x multiplier that someone probably hit somewhere. About how I could have let my last round ride just one more lane.



I got nothing done for the next hour.



So yeah. Don't play Chicken Road at work. Or do. I'm not your boss. But maybe set some ground rules first.



Things I've learned the hard way:



Turn off sound unless you want everyone to hear cartoon chicken noises



Auto cash out is your friend when you need to actually focus on real life



The demo mode exists for a reason and that reason is "don't lose real money while supposed to be working"



If someone asks you a question, just cash out immediately. The 0.5x you're chasing isn't worth the awkward conversation.
